Paul Buxcey opened Townhouse 32 years ago in the tiny village of Marple Bridge where he grew up. After trading for 4 years, disaster struck and Marple Bridge had to be closed when Town Street fell into the river!
The shop was cut off for a year, and Paul began to ship English and Continental antiques to America. After meeting Jeri, they returned to Manchester and started trading again in 1996, first setting up in Manchester and Leek before returning to 21 Town Street in Marple Bridge in 2001.
In 2006 we fancied a change and moved to France. While living in France, we were influenced by rural French style with it’s painted techniques, and love of timeworn metal ware and rustic country furniture occasionally mixed with more modern pieces.
In 2012 we returned to our old premises. We were thrilled to see old customers and friends while making new ones.
It was wonderful that after all those years, we had customers coming back who bought things many years ago, and still love what they bought!
On 31 December 2019 we reluctantly closed the Town Street shop due to the loss of our storage premises at the rear. Townhouse will now move into the 21st century by trading online and by appointment.
